Product: FiberLIBS

The FiberLIBS is a free beam LIBS system for surface element analysis. It works with a laser focus diameter less than 200 µm and needs a visible defined target on the surface. By the atomic composition in the measuring point it is possible to determine the sample material and to detect and determine contaminations on surfaces. With a laser pulse rate up to 100 Hz the system is able to send out up to 100 analysis results per second.

The FiberLIBS sensor system is usable to detect, classify and analyze solid state and liquid materials preferable with a homogeneous distribution of elements. It is designed for full automated recognition of taught material samples and configured to output data for subsequent sorting in industrial applications. Furthermore the system can distinguish between material types by the quantity of elements in an alloy. Based on calibration functions the FiberLIBS system is also able to quantify the content of required elements in material samples.

FiberLIBS Application Fields

The wide field of applications starts with extraction of natural ressources and reaches through inspection of industrial processes out to processing of recoverable materials in recycling. Typical objectives for system applications are:

  • sorting in industrial manufactoring and recycling
  • confusion inspection and protection against counterfeit goods by monitoring material identity
  • inline quality inspection in running industrial processes
  • detection of surface contaminations and coatings
  • analysis of element composition in material flows
  • detection of hazardous substances

The system contents laser source (1064 nm), spectrometer (measuring range and resolution can be defined) and industrial PC with touch screen display. Industrial communication ports for external host control are integrated. The basic housing of the analysis and control unit allows its use in a 19" rack. On request surrounding housings for higher protection class available.

FiberLIBS optical head

As beam source a microchip laser from CryLaS GmbH is used. The sensor head optics allows working distances from 25 up to 125 mm and more, depending on the material to be investigated. This optics is simultaneously used for recording the LIBS emission (collinear LIBS setup). By two screws the head can be easily mounted into a plant construction.

Lab tests with FiberLIBS

A 2D-scan of surface areas can be realized with an optional X-Y-stage for sample movement. Also a video microscop for monitoring the accurate sample positioning can be added. Optional software allows an element-specific surface mapping in false color representation. For laboratory experiments or industrial measuring tasks in unprotected areas a suitable laser protective housing can be planned and delivered.
